About Mark
Mark discovered origami as a young child through the books of, amongst others, Harbin and Casahara, which he found at his public library. He was already creating his own designs at age 12. He joined the British Origami Society in 1979 and after a career in finance, he became a professional origami artist and designer in 2004.
He worked with various companies and organizations in the UK and other countries, with clients ranging from advertising, design, and event companies to publishers and academic institutions, among them BBC TV, Sony, and the Telegraph newspaper. The types of projects he undertook were also varied, including television and print advertisements, websites, newspaper articles, and direct marketing campaigns.
He excelled as an author, self-publishing a wide variety of origami books, as well as producing titles on commission such as "Perfectly Mindful Origami" (A 4 book series) and "Build Your Own Origami Army" (4 books).
He also compiled "Origami Europe" featuring a selection of works from some of Europe's most notable folders and, together with Paul Hanson, created the long-running cartoon series "Creasey and the Paper Boy" for the BOS Magazine.
His contribution to the entertainment industry included a number of appearances on UK TV, and his origami appeared in a series of ads for Santander featuring Ant & Dec.
Apart from his work in the UK, Mark traveled to and presented origami workshops in many other countries, including France, China, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Korea, Serbia and Dubai
Mark's favorite model remains a flying goose (find the diagram below) that he designed at age 12.
Origami achievements
He received the Sidney French Medal in 2015 and served the British Origami Society in various capacities, including first as a member, then as General Secretary from 2007 to 2011, and as Chairman from 2012 to 2015.
Other projects he was involved with include starting up the London Origami group with Paul Hanson & Sharon Turvey and being, together with Martin Walker and Zhong You from Oxford University, the lead organizer for the successful 7OSME origami, science, maths, and education conference in 2018.
Mark died in 2021.
