About Miguel F.
I was born in Mexico City in 1990, and my fascination with living creatures, alongside a lesser interest in fantasy and science fiction tales, has been a lifelong passion. I picked up the art of origami as a child, following diagrams found in books and on the internet. My journey into designing and creating models began when I wanted to capture highly specific objects, like video game characters. I also tried modular origami and kirigami, but my focus soon settled on origami folded from a single square sheet without any cuts.
My love for dinosaurs led me to pursue biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Despite time constraints during my studies, I managed to create one of my most renowned models: Cthulhu, a monster from H. P. Lovecraft's stories. The 2020 health crisis drastically slowed many of my activities, including my doctoral studies, letting me devote time to origami, refining my folding techniques, design skills, and diagramming abilities.
Currently, dozens of my origami models, complete with step-by-step instructions, are featured in compilations and books I've authored. I've also exhibited and taught how to fold my designs at international conferences. While I've recently turned my attention to pop culture in my creations, I have great interest in representing the living beings I professionally study.
