About Leyla
Leyla has been practicing the art of paper folding since 1988. She is the founder of OrigamiSpirit.com (2007 to the present) where she shares her own origami creations and teaches origami, sharing video tutorials on Youtube as well.
She loves to help people interested in origami to master their skills and creativity with paper folding by sharing resources, inspiration, and community so that they can use origami for self-expression and as a teaching tool.
Leyla has conducted paper-folding workshops, in-person and online classes for young and old, at international origami conventions, libraries, schools, and businesses in The United States, Europe, and South America.
She has been the special guest at Origami Mexico (Convention 2014 ), the Pacific Coast Origami Convention (PCOC 2015), and Origami Deutschland (Germany 2023)
In 2022 she received the Origami Teaching Award from Origami USA.
In addition to teaching and blogging about origami, Leyla is a visual artist and writer. You may see her watercolor art and published books for children at LeylaTorres.com.
Two big cities have been home to her. She was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and lived in New York City for many years. Presently, she lives with her husband and cat in Arlington, a quaint town in the gorgeous and placid state of Vermont (USA).
