Matthew Green
Matthew Green has been involved in origami for more than 40 years. He started teaching origami around the age of 11 in the early 1980s. Originally from New England, he now lives in Mexico, where he works primarily as a translator. He has designed more than 300 models covering a range of themes and styles, including real and mythological animals, religious themes, masks, and most recently, modular rings and stars, among others. Several of his models have been published in print in origami anthologies and on his YouTube channel. In 2024 he published his first book, "Magnificent Origami Mandalas".
I have diagrammed many of my own models, initially by hand in the 1980s, then more recently using Inkscape and Affinity Designer. Most recently I diagrammed 32 models for my own book. I am not currently diagramming models for others until I finish my second book.
I started teaching origami to other kids when I was 11. At 13, I taught a non-credit course at a community college. Throughout my teens I taught classes at OrigamiUSA conventions, schools, libraries, and various events. After a hiatus, I continued teaching at conventions and online origami events, nationally and internationally, in English and Spanish, including as a special guest at the origami convention in Mexico City and in Facatativá, Colombia. I also taught classes for CONARTE, the Council for Culture and the Arts of the state of Nuevo León, México, in the mid-2010s. I continue to teach occasional classes for Fundapromat, the Panamanian Foundation for the Promotion of Mathematics. I've taught students of all ages but most often from around 10 and up.
As far as general teaching experience goes, I also taught languages for several years, as well as philosophy (9 years), to students between roughly 17 and 30 years of age.
