About Luca
I'm a University professor of Geometry at the University of Salerno, Italy. I fold paper since I was a child and I started designing my own models when I was a teenager. My first serious design was a chessman: a Knight, later followed by a whole chess set, when I was around 17.
I’m a member of the Centro Diffusione Origami (CDO) since I was around 16, and I have attended the CDO conventions since I was 18, with a long break of 14 years, both from origami design and conventions, after my second child was born. I happily came back designing and attending the CDO conventions in the years 2023 and 2024 respectively, the latter being a very special year as I was honored as the “Origamist under the Spotlight” at the CDO convention.
I’m not a very prolific origami author, and my portfolio features less than 50 models, sometimes organized in series. Despite my profession, and rather sadly, I’m not particularly interested in the mathematical aspects of Origami, my favorite genre being figurative origami, particularly animals, and fantasy / mythology themed models. My latest design is a whole Western Zodiac, including an ecliptic star to display the signs. I’m currently working on a Chinese Zodiac.
