Explore Math with Origamiby Marc Kirschenbaum and Daniel Scher

There is surprisingly little material that explores the many connections between math and origami specifically targeted at high school students. While we cover the basics of geometry and other mathematical subjects, visualizing these concepts through paper folding revealed many connections that even surprised us. Throughout this journey of learning math through folding, we have included a few origami models in the book. Most of the exercises do not specify exact landmarks in the folding process, allowing for exploration from different starting points and reinforcing various mathematical relationships. Unlike traditional geometry books, this approach does not rely on a single quintessential example; instead, it helps learners develop a broader ability to recognize and explore a range of subjects. The book covers not only geometry but also statistics, exponents, and number lines. Our classroom testing has shown that students are inspired to continue exploring math through folding. It is clear to us that the tactile act of folding paper reinforces the concepts learned. We believe this book deserves greater visibility through this prestigious award.
