About Romie
Romulo, or Romie, for short, is a Filipino. He is a retired civil servant and presently an independent policy and program development consultant in the field of education and peacebuilding. He has served a number of national and international agencies and organizations.
Outside his professional work, Romie is an origami artist. Beginning with the traditional flapping bird that his mother taught him in childhood, Romie increasingly got fascinated with origami, particularly with the intricate works of renowned masters. In 2009, Romie began to delve into origami designing. His creations range from simple to intermediate models in various categories— representational, decorative and practical. His original works are featured in his origami blog, FOLDSHOP.
In August 2019, he co-founded the Origami Artists of the Philippines (OAP), an informal Facebook-based group of Filipino origami enthusiasts and designers presently with more than 250 members. He has facilitated a number of origami folding sessions organized by government agencies and non-government/private organizations.
To Romie, origami is a creative way of understanding the geometric and mathematical beauty of nature, as well as sharpening one’s analytical and thinking skills.
