About Romie
Romie learned origami during his childhood. His mother taught him how to fold the classic origami flapping bird. Over the years, Romie increasingly got fascinated with origami, particularly with the works of origami art masters such as David Brill, Jun Maekawa, Michael Lafosse, Neil Elias, Peter Engel, and Robert Lang.
In later years, Romie tried his hand on origami designing. He has, for instance, designed a dragon based on the flapping bird model. His original creations are featured in his origami blog, Origami+ Explorer. He has taught origami to a number of children, youth and adults through small informal sessions.
Some highlights:
2015 - Romie participated in the Nihongo Festival Origami exhibit in 2015 organized by fellow local origami artists.
2019 July – conducted origami session in Dingalan, Aurora
2019 August - Romie co-founded the Origami Artists of the Philippines (OAP), an informal group of Filipino paper folders and origami designers. The group presently has 150 members.
To Romie, origami and origami designing are creative ways of understanding the geometric and mathematical beauty of nature, as well as sharpening one’s analytical and thinking skills.
