T08 Golofa Beetle
Return to EntriesOver the years, there have been massive strides in the genre of insect origami designs, with models becoming more and more complex and with larger and larger grid sizes. With this design, however, I sought to demonstrate that even complex subjects with high levels of detail can be achieved with relatively simple crease patterns and structures. I designed this model not with the mentality of packing as many details in with the most complex structure possible, but the simplest structure possible. I would hope that this model can show that even something as complex as a beetle with horns, legs, spikes, elytra, and much more can be folded without the massive grids and complex structures that many modern insect designs use. I would also hope that this mentality of simplicity over complexity wherever possible would be adopted by other insect designers and designers in general, as I believe it produces much more elegant crease patterns and allows more room for creative and skilled shaping.
