I08 Fakir / Turbaned Man by Hojyo Takashi
Return to EntriesThis interpretation of Hojyo Takashi's "Fakir"/"Turbaned Man" is a complete transformation and almost looks like a whole different design altogether. Through the reshaping of the turban, the face, and the torso, the model represents a man with a history, gaunt with his devoted poverty and absent unholy possessions, whose face and tone, and clothes reflect a culture that exists and breathes in real communities, struck by a thought. The handpainted golden paper reflects on the experience that Hindu fakir have as the golden dusty texture points to a man who spends most of his time in the sun. It also looks like the gold is coming out most at the creases and edges, breaking through to the surface a powerful soul underneath.
