FA18 An Origami Journey
Return to EntriesThis design represents the journey that we all take as origami artists growing in our craft: from the starting point of a traditional crane in one hand, all the way to being able to fold a Ryujin in the other hand. The model is meant to inspire the viewer, reminding that any beginner who can fold a crane has the potential to one day fold a Ryujin, and even the most advanced folders who have reached the level of Ryujin were once beginners at the crane level too. These folders are not gods nor geniuses, but rather normal people just like everyone else—as expressed through the figure’s ordinary-looking clothes. Additionally, the depicted folder is folded from the same uncut square as the origami in his hands (as opposed to having been 3 separate sheets), illustrating how we as artists are deeply connected and inseparable from our art.
