T24 Hexagonal lattice
Return to EntriesI've been experimenting with the possibilities of incorporating single straight cuts with box-pleating for the past month. To design a crown, I found a good folding process to form the cavity from the cut which prevents further ripping. After testing out multiple such cavities on a single sheet, I noticed a pattern could be obtained. Epiphany ensued. Meet a new type of origami tessellation: the lattice. The two models you see are the exact same design, but with different shaping. Thanks to the flexibility provided by the links in the lattice, there are many more possibilities, including curves. Note: this is only the beginning. In less than two weeks, I came up with 10 different designs and that count will only go up as I attempt more complex patterns.
