About Ricardo
Born in Monterrey, Mexico. Began folding as a kid, newspaper into fish and boats kind of thing. When I was about 10, an older kid taught me the waterbomb. I did and undid it until I could I do it by memory. I gave away to friends. Tried experimenting, coming up with little games and puzzles to show and play with the other kids. I never got into origami books, or origami videos until I began teaching, many years later. Before that I would experiment with the topography of the gridded math notebooks, ripping out pages and folding along and in between the lines. I was fascinated by the mechanics and the ways the shape of the paper determined what could folding do to it. I got into geometry and folding patterns, naturally ventured into "paper craft" and began putting together these crytallographic pattern made out of paper, then Islamic Patterns, then aperiodic patterns, then Islamic Patterns and so on. I try to combine origami with patterns and the irrational side of reality.
Diagramming Capabilities
I use Autocad or Rhino to draw the lines, then in Illustrator or Inkscape I do the visual and format of the diagram. I have recently begun experimenting with using a webcam to trace the shapes of the folds and then compose those.
