This model utilizes a relatively uncommon design method - axial hexpleating - to achieve a highly complex artistic result. Rather than use conventional boxpleating, the use of a 60-degree triangle grid (more often seen in tessellations) makes it possible to add scales and armor texture using the ridges of the design, rather than by adding additional flaps.
