The Kyoto Retreat 2025

The Kyoto Retreat invites artists, curators, and writers at all career stages— from anywhere in the world and working in any medium including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, writing, poetry, interdisciplinary, and social practice — to apply for a unique four-week research and exploration residency in Kyoto, Japan, from October 16 to November 13, 2025. Selected participants (ages 21+) will receive a roundtrip flight to Kansai or Osaka International Airport, private bedroom accommodations in a shared house, and an 800 USD stipend for meals and local transportation. The retreat is designed to offer time for immersion in Japanese culture, inspiration, and connection with fellow creatives, with no requirement to produce new work during your stay.
