This is a redesign of an older model I created. My design method usually involves creating a general structure without really knowing how the finished product will be. The shaping then becomes a kind of discovery process which i thoroughly enjoy as the model slowly comes to life.
With this model I of course knew I wanted a creature with a forest on its back so i used a wenzhou/tissue combination to be able to create the color changes. The idea to twist and crumple nearly every flap to create roots and wood like textures came very late in the process and I came up with a fun idea for the face I hadn't tried before. While using such methods is nothing new in origami, the result in combination with the paper colors l created a rather unique look.
