Mamluk

A tessellated composition with four lines of symmetry. The left half is reflected on the right, but also the top half on the bottom, and the same thing happens in regard to its diagonals. Unlike the usual origami tessellations, only one layer is visible on its public side, the other one being hidden from the observer. Instead of layers, its folds generate hollow lines which draw the piece's appealing pattern. It's easy to associate this folded work with popular examples of geometric visual art, such as Islamic patterns and stained-glass schemes.
