A whimsical and expressive gnome comes to life, showcasing a unique identity born from my personal interpretation. While inspired by the style of Eric Joisel, this model is not a replica but a creation that reflects my vision, with distinct modifications to the face, belly, and pose. Every detail was carefully designed to achieve balance and movement, embodying the creative freedom that defines the character's individuality.
The chosen paper, a blend of Wenzhou and Extra Thin Handmade Paper, was tailored to a specific weight of 55gsm, providing the necessary strength, flexibility, and refined finish. Painted with checkerboard dye and acrylic paint, the paper not only complements the design but also enhances the sculptural quality, offering excellent support for three-dimensional forms and subtle details. The square sheet used measured 60 cm x 60 cm, ensuring ample material for precise shaping.
The gnome's tilted posture, with one hand raised, conveys both humor and introspection. Initially, a pipe was considered for the raised hand, but the natural pose proved more authentic and dynamic. This creation embodies my essence, standing apart from the original while telling a new story where technique and emotion seamlessly intertwine.
