Green Turtle V2

Even though a Green Turtle might seem like a simple subject, it actually comes with some intriguing technical aspects.
The most prominent one is the shell. Using Hexpleating, one can easily recreate the central scutes (the middle of the shell) in a natural way. Additionally I decided to add the plates at the edge of the shell and it is already curved in the base to optimize shaping.
As it turned out for the head and the fore flippers, Boxpleating was more efficient and better suited.
Since I think that the technique should support the final model, I combined Boxpleating and Hexpleating in this design. The shell and the hind flippers use Hexpleating, the head and the fore flippers use Boxpleating. Designs combining these two techniques are extremely rare, it´s a mostly unexplored field. Combining Boxpleating and Hexlpeating made the grid quite unique: The head and neck lie on a 26 diagonal grid, the grid for the shell and for the fore flippers can be constructed from there.
However it also provides great opportunities leading to the following results:
The Green Turtle has a ratio of 0.43, the shell is colour changed. The head, that features eyes and a lower jaw, is fully closed (and the belly mostly). The pattern on the shell is detailed while the shape of the shell remains organic and round.
