Folded from a 30cm long rectangle.
This model showcases how a false sense of perspective can be achieved in bas-relief. This is achieved though the combination of
- a tilted display: it is oriented away from us, its top tilted towards the back at an angle of some 45° as compared to the vertical plane; and
- selectively elongated features to mimic perspective.
The result is a “trompe-l‘oeil“ effect of full volume -not only in this picture but also in real life-, even though the model is essentially flat (with a crease depth of about one cm).
A similar technique was used for my “Penelope“ submission in another category.
