The Dawn of Modern Origami

I made this interpretation of the Orizuru taking off at the dawn of modern origami. The model is intentionally only partially altered so that it reminds of the classic Orizuru itself. It displays the origami Crane taking off from the waters of Japan to reach other countries and
cultures, thrust by Akira Yoshizawa's work. A journey that rendered
Origami what it is today encompasses contributions from different worlds both in art and science and leaving, in turn, its mark in these fields.

In this model, the classic origami Crane was enriched with hints of milestones in the origami evolution. First, this model is a mix of dry folding to make the Crane and wet folding to make the moving waters of Japan so it reminds wet folding by Akira Yoshizawa. Second, the model sprouts two legs, incorporated using a partial "Blintzed" base, to remind the evolution of legs in more complex models. Third, the neck is realized with sink folds to clean up the model from visible creases, to symbolize the attention to detail put in modern design. Finally, paper is a home-made sandwich of wet folding paper and washi to represent the attention paid to folded paper or medium in modern
complex origami.
