PAPER AND POETRY: INVENTION THROUGH CRAFT UK (Deadline Mar 31, 2023)

Paper Foundation in Burneside, Cumbria, is delighted to announce that in September 2023 we will be hosting a symposium in partnership with the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Material Texts, exploring the ways in which the making of literary texts and the making of paper shape one another. From the medieval period to the present day, writers, artists, and makers have given imaginative and physical form to paper whilst their creative work has in turn been shaped by paper’s materiality. Exploring the historical and contemporary intersection between literary and material paper forms, the symposium will include  practical papermaking workshops, a writing workshop led by poet Vona Groarke, and a workshop from Professor Orietta Da Rold on paper in the history of the book.

Paper Foundation welcomes scholars working on paper in any field including literature, history, art history, and media studies, along with creative writers who engage with the materiality of their surfaces. Further information:
