About Manas
I am Manas Joshi from Pune, an architect by profession and an Origami artist. I have been practicing Origami for 12 years with a particular focus on Modular Origami, commonly known as 3D origami. This art involves assembling paper triangles and molding them into various forms through interlocking.
My journey began at the age of 11 after attending an Origami exhibition where I was introduced to modular origami models. With a curiosity to understand these folding techniques, I joined a four-day workshop where I got to learn the fundamentals of folding and the mechanics behind these paper modules. Starting with basic models, I eventually started designing on my own. In 2012 I had folded a model of Taj Mahal, a milestone that boosted my confidence for larger-scale and more complex origami projects.
My interest lies in exploring architectural structures and to decode its geometry and proportions which reflects in my style of folding. My portfolio includes origami replicas of renowned global landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Delhi Lotus Temple, Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Petronas Twin Towers, and Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona. For last 2 years I am also exploring new form of 3D origami which is making intricate Portraits using the same technique of paper triangles.
I have always been fascinated by modular origami's flexibility. The most interesting aspect is that the same module can transform into different forms through varied assemblies.
As an Architect, I would explore folding techniques for designing complex structures.
