Flower Pot

The main challenge of this model was combining an organic flower with a fitting pot.
Why?
For the plant, I wanted delicate flowers, thin leaves and curved stems, that will contain many layers, but should not show it.
The pot is the complete opposite. It should be sturdy enough to support the weight of the plant.
To make it realistic it should also be closed from all sides and of course it should be efficient...

To solve these problems, I decided to make the pot from the middle of the paper. So, the plant consists only of edge and corner flaps, which are thinner. This method also allowed me to add colour changes quite easily and modify the plant without changing the pot. Using a (hexpleated) pattern, a natural locking mechanism and a special paper I made, the pot is surprisingly sturdy, considering it only has one layer at the lower part of the walls and the bottom.
Even though the crease pattern features a combination of Hexpleating and Boxpleating, is assymetric and has several colour changes and is not even flat foldable, I think it is a relatively simple solution considering my goals.
Folding the model was interesting as well. To make things easier, I collapsed most of the base with the inside out. Finally turning the outside out and locking the pot the model suddenly got its appearance. (These details of the folding process can be seen at my website)

All in all this model combines two completely different parts using different techniques in the most elegant way I found.
