Blue Planet
The model Blue Planet stands out for its innovative technical approach, based on an exceptional mastery of color change applied to a fully three-dimensional form.
Through folding alone, the designer succeeds in drawing the surface of the globe, with major continents and regions that are clearly identifiable, correctly positioned, and legible on a closed volume.
The challenge is twofold. The designer must control with extreme precision the placement of color changes across the surface, while simultaneously anticipating the transformation and displacement of shapes during the transition from flat pattern to volume. Each colored area must function in the flat state, then realign accurately once the model is closed, without loss of legibility or geographical continuity.
This work represents a major technical advancement. Color-change “painting,” traditionally limited to flat models, is here applied for the first time to a fully three-dimensional object.
