Trapdoor Spider

Origami Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia truncata), showcasing the circular patterns on its seemingly truncated abdomen. Folded from a 50 x 50 cm Unryu sheet.
This design combines techniques in box-pleating and 22.5-degree to balance flexibility and ease of folding.
* Abdomen: To achieve the thick, patterned flat-end without compromising space for the rest of the appendages, the middle part of the paper is pleated and sunk to repeatedly form edges. This produces a corrugated tube with numerous pleats inside that are sculpted into pattern. Even though the finished shape looks complex, it's actually made from basic building blocks.
* Cephalothorax: Details such as the eyes and mouthparts were folded from the remaining space in the middle.
* Legs: The internal structure is enclosed with a regular octagon, which is naturally based on 22.5-degree angles, yielding the longest possible flaps to form eight legs.
