Stegosaurus

This origami stegosaurus is designed by Shuki Kato and aimed to express the quiet strength and ancient dignity of one of Earth’s oldest creatures. Rather than aiming for strict anatomical replication, the model focuses on posture, silhouette, and presence — capturing the calm, deliberate movement of a giant that once roamed a world long vanished.

The plates along the spine form a rhythmic, sculptural pattern that gives the model its visual power. Each fold contributes to the sense of mass and stability, contrasting the creature’s heavy body with the sharp, deliberate geometry of its plates. The chosen paper enhances this contrast, highlighting both structure and texture while emphasizing the dinosaur’s iconic profile.

This piece is submitted for the Artistic Award because it tells a story of time, endurance, and memory. The stegosaurus stands as a quiet monument — an origami interpretation that evokes the wonder of ancient life through thoughtful shaping, expressive form, and a silhouette that resonates with prehistoric echoes.
