Metarecursion #2

Description on Instagram: "Metarecursion #2 Complete Fractal State (3-Stage)

As promised, I’m back with the complete fractal state of this design! Folding sixteen third-generation sub-branches on a single sheet of paper was quite a challenge for my fingers, but the process was incredibly fun.

Since Metarecursion #2 is a modular fractal system, we can freely define how, where, and how many times the sub-branches split. Different rules will generate different fractal “trees.”

For this demonstration, I used the following rule: in each iteration, the parent branch grows four sub-branches symmetrically (up, down, left, and right), while also recursively extending itself by two additional levels. This model follows the rule up to the third generation. You can see the full progression from the first to the fourth generation in the computer simulation in the third image.

If you enjoy highly mathematical symmetrical structures like this, try creating your own fractal tree! You can place sub-branches diagonally, rotate each generation by 45 degrees, or vary the scale of sub-branches at different recursion levels—endless possibilities with fascinating visual effects.

Huge thanks to @em_origami for the visionary concept! Exploring the potential of origami while standing on the shoulders of giants is truly an amazing experience".
